Sailpast Regatta Great success!

Under clearing skies and light winds, HSC members salute our Commodore during Sailpast and then continue on with our Sailpast Regatta.

Sailpast begins at 9:30am with a PickUp3 Beach clean-up with Ocean Ambassadors.  Thanks to Alison Wood of Ocean Ambassadors Canada (https://oceanambassadorscanada.org) for organizing and including the club in this event. Ocean Ambassadors Canada is now spearheading the PickUp3 initiative. (https://pickup3.org) . PickUp3 is a grass roots community effort to keep our local beaches clean and ocean pristine. Thanks to everyone who participated. The beach is much cleaner!

HSC provided coffee to everyone who participated, members and non-members alike.

Fleet Captain Travis organizes the Sailpast fleet in the yard. Members prepare for Sailpast.

Member Mike Bretner has built an Iain Oughtred “Elf” and our Commodore presides over the launching ceremony. “Myst” is a faering, a Norse design.

Myst was built for the 2022 “Barefoot Raid”, hence the dragon head and tail and the toque with the horns.

Using cedar boughs, Commodore Burrows and Fleet Captain Travis sweep the boat free of any evil land spirits before launch.

Commodore Burrows gives the launching speech and “Myst” is piped into the water. The piping keeps the evil land spirits away! The dragon head and tail do the same for any evil water spirits in the vicinity.

Our Mirror Dinghy fleet rigs for Sailpast and the Regatta.

The Kayak contingent readies.
