Over the Bar.
Born in Flackwell Heath near High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England Brian passed away peacefully at home in West Vancouver on February 24, 2026, at the age of 95, surrounded by his loving family.
Brian will be remembered for his striking blue eyes, inquisitive mind, generous spirit, quiet kindness and genuine interest in others. He had a natural warmth that drew people in, an easy way of starting conversations and a sincere curiosity that made everyone feel heard and respected.
A gifted student and natural problem solver, Brian completed his Electrical Engineering degree in 1954. The following year he emigrated to Hamilton, Ontario with his first wife, Pauline, beginning his Canadian career with Westinghouse. In 1958 he was transferred to Vancouver, where the ocean and mountains became the backdrop to the life he built in B.C.
In the early 1960's Brian became a business partner in Chutter Hydraulics & Machinery Ltd., later Chamco Industries Ltd. His entrepreneurial spirit continued to flourish and in the mid 1980's the Chamco partners purchased Singer Valve Inc. in Surrey, B.C. Brian led Singer Valve with dedication and pride until he was almost 90 years old. Under his leadership the company grew internationally and through that work he and his wife Norma travelled widely, forming valued friendships around the world. Singer Valve was honoured by the Surrey White Rock Board of Trade with its Employer of the Year Award.
Brian loved the outdoors — skiing B.C. mountains, hiking with his black lab George, sailing West Coast waters and spending time at their Vancouver Island cottage brought him deep happiness.
He gave generously to his community through years of service - - attending West Vancouver Council meetings, leading a Boy Scout troop for several years while his sons were young and involved. He was a member of Probus, the West Vancouver Yacht Club and supported the Canadian Red Cross where he was recognized for his 100+ blood donation.
Family was always at the heart of Brian's life. Predeceased by Pauline, he leaves behind his treasured wife Norma (nee Buckle); sons Chris (Janyce Evansj and David; stepdaughters Valerie Fish and Brenda Hooper (Phil); Grandchildren Corrine, Michael, Brendan, Steven, Shawn, Aidan, Grayson and Devin.
