Think Hollyburn Kayak Challenge Race Instructions

Registration

Registration will start at 6pm at the Hollyburn Sailing Club.

The entry fee for each race is $5 (cash only).

A race number will be issued to each entrant for each race. The number should taped onto the front left of the kayak. Please return your number after each race so that we can recycle it.

Entrants who already have a number on their boat from previous races or other race series (e.g. Deep Cove) may re-use the number. When registering, the existing boat number should be indicated on the registration form.

All participants are required to sign a waiver upon registering for their first race of the season.

Boats

The race is open to all classes of human-powered water craft. Participants are required to provide their own boats (Co-op members of Hollyburn Sailing Club may use the club's co-op kayaks on a first-come, first-served basis).

There is no parking available on the club's grounds. Participants will be required to carry their boats from their vehicles to the launch from the beach in front of the club-house.

Safety

The sea conditions off West Vancouver are highly variable. If the seas are deemed too rough to stage a race safely, then the race will be cancelled and any registration fees refunded.

All participants are required to keep well clear of the commercial shipping lanes to the south of the West Vancouver coastline. Refer to the Boundaries for details of restricted areas.

Fishing off the Ambleside pier is popular. All participants are advised to stay well clear of the pier to avoid possible entanglement with fishing gear.

Participants shall give all possible help to any person or vessel in danger. Redress will be given to competitors involved in rescues.

Participants should refer to the Safety page for more information.

Decision to Race

The responsibility for a competitor's decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is their's alone.

The organisers reserve the right to cancel a race prior to the start or to abandon a race in progress at their discretion.

Start

Start will be between a red buoy located 25m south of the Ambleside pier and an HSC safety boat.

The 6km and 10km races will start simultaneously at 7:00pm.

Finish

The finish will be across an imaginary line south of the Ambleside pier and south of the same start marker. Do not go in between the marker and the pier. Call out your race number as you finish.

Post-race

Shower facilities are available at the sailing club, for use of participants after the race.

Participants may bring their own beverages for consumption after each race. Light snacks will be provided.

Every effort will be made to produce race results as quickly as possible and post them on the web site.
